He was signed in 1998 by the Denver Broncos and later transferred to the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he enjoyed some success before retiring in 2000.
Chris first met Gabrielle at a party in Jacksonville just before he decided to retire from football. After a brief courtship, they decided to get married in 2001.
On the Armchair Expert podcast, Gabrielle described the marriage as "such a stupid relationship that should have never progressed beyond the dating phase.".
The only thing you have in common, according to her, is other people, so why don't you just go be with other people? [She said] We should probably try to end things amicably because you don't share any morals or values.

They went public in 2010, but remained apart for a while during which Dwayne fathered a child with another woman. It wasn't until two years later that Dwyane asked Gabrielle out on a date.
Currently, Gabrielle and Dwyane's relationship is only getting stronger. Most recently, the couple came together to support his transgender child, Zaya, whom Dywane frequently gushed about on his Instagram.
In February 2020, Dwyane made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about the touching moment when Zaya requested that Dwyane and her stepmother Gabrielle refer to her by her new name.
Dwyane stated on the program that he and his partner are both proud allies and parents of a child who belongs to the LGBTQ community.
