The Paula Abdul vs. Nigel Lythgoe Lawsuit
Paula Abdul has filed a lawsuit against former American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance producer Nigel Lythgoe, alleging sexual assault and harassment.
The lawsuit was filed under California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act, allowing victims to file lawsuits beyond the statute of limitations.
Abdul alleged that Lythgoe sexually assaulted her on two occasions, one during American Idol's early seasons and the other while she was a judge on So You Think You Can Dance.
Lythgoe denied the allegations, stating that he was shocked and saddened by the claims, and would fight the lawsuit.
Abdul also accused Lythgoe of verbal harassment, bullying, and paying her less than male colleagues. She claimed to have witnessed him sexually assaulting her assistant in 2015.
In addition to Lythgoe, Abdul filed lawsuits against the production companies for American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, citing negligence as the reason.
